I am 3 weeks post surgery and feel like I can eat more than I should...certainly more than I expected. As an example, I just had mashed potatoes for lunch with some 'crisp bread'. I ate around a cup of mashed potatoes and then 2 of the crisp bread wafers. I'm full but not sick.

Anyone else experience this ability to eat after surgery? I'm really nervous about what this means to my ability to lose and keep weight off.

It will end. I'm 2 months post op, and I started that way right up until a week ago. This week, something changed and I'm feeling full quickly and my intake has dropped quite a bit. Nothing is wrong, it's just part of healing. I had to measure everything since I didn't feel full.

I takes awhile for all the nerve endings in your pouch to heal. I would suggest you weigh or measure your food to your dr or nuts protocol so you don't overeat while your insides are healing

I've been feeling this way too, I'm also right at three months out. I started weighing my food, and being very diligent about measuring and so on. My mom says that I look so serious when I'm cooking now, because before It was one of my favorite things to do, and now I'm bent over a measuring cup and food scale jotting down every detail like I'm a mad scientist.

I find I can eat far less hard Protein ( chicken, fish, etc) than other stuff. I measure everything and always eat hard Protein, then veg, then carbs in that order. Stuff like Soup? I can eat like 6 oz. of that, but only about 2 oz chicken

Thanks all for the feedback. I've been making an effort to measure everything.

My surgeon explained that our pouch is like a funnel. If you put something liquid through the funnel it goes straight through, and you can keep putting more in. If you put in something simi-solid, then it will take longer to go through, thus you can eat less.

I still weigh everything at 4 1/2 months out. I still do not get the hungry or full feelings. As long as you do it consistently it never seems like a big deal, just normal. :)

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
