I just finished serving my family thr dinner I made them. Baked chicken thighs and mashed potatoes with a green salad on the side. I served them all, grabbed my crystal light lemonade and sat down with them. Kinda sad because I wish I could eat but, happy I'm losing weight so I can deal with it. Then my hubby says. 'You should leave the table I dnt feel comfortable eating infront of you' I say I'm ok I can handle it. But he insist he can't eat that way. So here I am in my room waiting on my family to b done eating. Feeling left out. I'm exactly one week post op today..... oh well. It will get better. Just tired of liquids blah!

Yeah he meant well because he knows I want food but, the way it came out made me feel isolated :(

How about 'thank you for worrying about me but being isolated and not feeling like part of the family makes me feel worse'. I guess that's better than kiss my butt :)

My husband said I was starting to stare at him like our dog Molly does when he wants what is on his plate. It is only temporary and it does get better.

Don't feel bad....my mom was here helping me recover and she went all out cooking tacos...chicken..enchiladas. .I mean you name it she made it..and I was fine...didn't bother me one bit. ..I wasn't hungry..but then when it was my hubby's turn to get surgery and by this time I was on soft foods. .he couldn't deal...everyone reacts and handles it differently..

That was rotten of him. Next time, maybe you can heat up some broth in a bowl or some creamy Soup and enjoy dinner with your family. I sure hope he's not going to chase you out of the dinner table like that ever again. Teach him respect --- you have earned it!

My family was the same way...they felt really guilty eating in front of me. At first it was really hard for me to watch them enjoy foods I knew I would probably never eat again, but 1 month post-op and I don't care at all about what others are eating! I just told my mom that food wasn't important to me anymore and I didn't mind being around food I couldn't have. She is still leery to eat around me, but I just continue to reinforce the idea that I'm OK with it. Your husband means well!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
