Hi, my name's Amber Rose and I had the gastric bypass in Sept of '02. My surgent was Dr. Mittchell of Pinehurst, North Carolina. I weighed 285 and dropped to 140 in 2 years.

Over the past few years, I dealt with some pretty heavy things, which made me gain 80 lbs. There were deaths, a job loss, seperation and family issues that helped the weight creep back on. I thought about revision, but I really don't want to go under a knife again. I have a daughter now and she's the world to me, so there's more to loose this time for me. Firstly, is my pouch still there and can I shrink it by diet and exercise? Do I still have malabsorbtion? Is taking the Vitamins like Iron and Calcium still good for me? Should I still consume 90gms of Protein daily? What other options are there for me to get back on track and a healthy weight again?

I live in Texas now, so going to see my original surgent is not in the cards. I don't have the finances to travel! I met with Dr. John Alexander in Dallas, but I wasn't comfortable with the surgery or his staff. He seems like a good surgent, but I like my surgent to have a better bedside manner and it doesn't seem like he does.

Has anyone know of the StomaX? They go in endo through the throat to shrink your pouch.

Please help!!!!!!!!

Hi there!

Welcome.

Stomaphyx and other procedures have poor results. If you have a lot to lose you can look into a revision but If its more like 30-40 lbs it's going to be about your diet.

You do not have malabsorption of calories and all that anymore. you will always have malabsorption of Vitamins so you need to keep getting bloodwork checked. Most of us long timers find our Iron tends to tank quite easily many years out.

You can't shrink your pouch. You can reduce your carbs focus on Protein and you may feel like you have more sensitivity to your pouch. De-carb.

The best way to lose is to use myfitnesspal and track what you are eating. Aim for 40% Protein or more in your diet. If you are on Facebook I have a group for long timers. Just message me.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
