BECOMING AN EATING DISORDER?

Recommended Posts

I'm glad that you were able to get the help and for admitting you were having a problem ...while I'm not chewing and spitting things out' date=' I'm afraid of food.... I eat the same things everyday and only enough to get my Protein of 60 grams in

unjury unflavored Protein in my oj

Quest Protein Bar

salad

And for snack - banana apple sauce and peanuts

I have tried real foods but I never get past the first bite and its just not that appealing ...

chicken doesn't feel right going down and I hate seafood ;(. My friend thinks I may be starting to have an eating disorder cause it may be more in my head than actually not being able to eat it[/quote']

I eat a lot of the same thing over and over again too. chicken took me a good 3 months before I could stomach it, as well as eggs took 4 1/2 months. I can only eat what I feel like as many foods do not have the same appeal they once did. I don't know how far out you are but I am 4 1/2 months and eat between 600-800 calories with an average of 70-90 grams of protein. I still do two shakes a day. Nutritionist and surgeon are both ok with my intakes.

Over the phone assesment with a place called melrose institute diagnosed me with an eating disorder...appointment is on Thursday

My main reason for seeing a psychiatrist is the way I think about food and my body after surgery. I'm proud you took that step to call, it's the hardest one. If you ever want to chat I'm at Kraney@aol.com

Sounds like you should see your psychologists not your surgeon.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
