Is the staying away from caffiene temporary or permanent? They told me caffeine bothers the pouch. If I can't have my diet coke I really have to have my ice tea!

My doctor says no caffine, unfortunately ice tea also has caffine so Decaf only in both. Now about the cola products whether diet or regular these also contain caffine but there is another reason why you cannot have it. What happens when you shake pop and then open it? It sorta fizzes out because the carbonation has to have room to expand. The same thing can happen in your pouch, it can cause the pouch to expand. The caffine causes ulcers. So if you are having this surgery to get healthy I would suggest to rethink your addictions as you may end up in even worse shape than being overweight.

I get that but what I dont get is, why my doctors office says coffee (not decaf) is ok. If you can have a cup of coffee why can't you have a glass of tea? I'd think there is more cafeine in the coffee

"Caffeine is a diuretic, which means it makes you urinate. So if you're trying to hydrate, drinking regular coffee or tea is not the best choice. Caffeine can also hurt your stomach pouch if you drink it in large amounts, so cut back on caffeine or, if you can, eliminate it entirely." taken from Weightloss Surgery for Dummies. If you stop, maybe at one, then you might be okay. But that "one" can be an issue, one didn't hurt me so I'll have another, etc. etc. Of course it is your choice, its your body.

some brands of tea has more caffeine in it than coffee but I have found that lipton Decaf has a really good flavor. and if you drink a decaf drink whether it be coffee or tea you still get a small amount of caffeine still. oldone made a good point it is your body and if you chose to drink a soda they did (and hopefully still do) have a decaf brand of coke but I am not sure how it taste or even if they still make it. when I did drink coke it had to be the real thing ha ha or what was the point in drinking it. Now it is decaf coffee, decaf tea and crystal light flavor packets when I want something other than Water.< /p>

For my pre-op I was fortunate that the nutritionist on my team had lots of samples we could purchase - and there was a whole protocol where I just bought 2 weeks worth of Robard meals from her. But my husband and I have drank Protein shakes for years - mostly Matrix. However - now that I am a few days post-op I find that I really like the Bariatric Advantage ones because they are so low volume.

Does your nutritionist have access to some samples for you to try at low cost?

My Nut suggested sugar free Carnation Instant Breakfast, made with skim milk for extra Protein. This has none of the fake shake flavor or texture. She said this would be a fine option instead of the why Protein Shake.< /p>

Go to Publix and in the ice cream freezer there is this sugar free ice cream called "Luke's... something. It is all chemicals but if you let it melt to a thick liquid, you can mix it with the Protein Shake with ice and a teaspoon of 2% milk. Put in a "Bullet" mixer and it is way better. I can drink them and even when it comes down to no more ice crystals, you can finish it. It is a matter of replacing the Water with something that taste better.

Just weighed in today @ the Dr. and according to THEIR records, I started at 312 on surgery day (Aug. 14th). Today I weighed in at 262 lbs. Never dumped. Only had two issues with over eating by a tablespoon. Finger down the throat and feeling great again.

Eating 1,250 calories a day. Loosing 3 to 5 lbs per week. Treadmill every other day... walking.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
