Good morning all. I am almost at my 1 yr mark for being banded,I have lost umm about 40 pounds.I need help with getting enough Protein per day.I am very restricted in mornings and have a hard time with the shakes even, since they are cold (get up at 5am) I was able to eat chicken and tuna before but no matter how I cook it except in soup:phanvan it causes me to feel uncomfortable or I vomit now.I am starting to feel like I am losing the battle against weight gain .I will appreciate any ideas to help me get on track again with the right foods.Oh yeah I haven't eaten red meat in over 10 yrs,but I will if it is a way for me to get enough protein. I have been eating cheeses, yogurt, a little Peanut Butter, Beans, some lunch meats, fish and shell fish but kinda tired of eating same things over and over.(I also have high blood pressure so I watch sodium content of foods, because since banding it has been lower:biggrin1: Thanks in advance for all your help

I would suggest making an appointment with your dr. It sounds like you might be a little tight.

I'd also be careful with cheese, it's very high fat and so high calories.

I buy the unflavored Unjury Protein Powder (any unflavored would work), and I add it to just about anything! It has 20 g. per scoop, and I don't usually use an entire scoop. I am picky, and do not want my flavor changed!!! It is not suggested to go into really HOT foods, but warm is fine. I have used it in broth, in juices, I have even added it to spaghetti sauce.

I agree that you might want to discuss this with your Dr. and see if a temporary unfill might be in order. You may have irritated your stomach, and be dealing with the evil cycle of swelling when you eat.

Have you tried sipping something warm, before trying to eat? It sometimes relaxes the stomach and then you can eat easier. Many people I have read, also take a couple of bites, then need to wait 5-10 minutes before eating again....it allows the first bites to settle, and then you don't back up into the esophagus they said.

There is supposed to be some sort of Protein that you can drink in just a couple of ounces that has huge amounts of protein, but I don't know what it is....have you researched protein supplements? That might give you some good info. If I hear what it is, I will let you know. I hope you find some answers soon!!!

Thanks marys I got busy and forgot to look it up---life has been pretty chaotic the last couple of days!! Appreciate it---I hate when I leave things hanging like that. They say the memory is the second thing to go with old age----I forget what the first is.....

thanks!

Oh - Valentine

They make 42 gram liquids, too... IDS New whey

you can find them at DPS Nutrition: http://www.dpsnutrition.net/get_by_79.htm

I mix mine with Water - cause they are kind of strange texture. I prefer mixing with a bottle of flavored water and drinking it.

Between Orange flavor and fruit Punch, I choose Orange. I haven't tried the others.

**If you don't like the cold - I mix the liquid with room temp flavored water. It works for me.

Good luck!!

I warm up a vanilla Protein Shake (i like Michellar Milk) carefully and add a scoop or two of a good quality instant coffee. That way I have a warm milky coffee drink for the morning that goes down nicely. Just don't over heat the Protein Drink, it will coagulate and it's nasty.

Check in with your doctor. I would guess your diet is high in fat and calories. Try meats and veges with just a little slider on them....a little applesauce on pork, a little mayo on tuna, no heavily processed high calorie lunch meats, less dairy. Keep a food log for calorie counting for awhile.

Hello there...just giving my two cents as a Banded Dietitian. I find it very helpful to drink something hot in the mornings....hot coffee or tea and it does help to loosen up the band so you can eat good quality foods for Breakfast. You will more than likely always be tight in the morning...aahh...the life of a bandster!:clap2:

Agreeed about the warm drink first thing in the morning..I won't even try to eat until after a couple of cups of Matrix chocolate in my coffee or straight (Matrix is a wonderful chocolate). I also drink hot tea with orange cream Matrix in it. Micellar Milk is delicious.....40 grams per carton (it's not real milk) and it's good hot or cold, straight or in coffee/tea or flavored up with SF syrups like Torani or Davinci. No excuse for not getting good tasting Protein. I'm not much a meat eater but I have no trouble getting 100 grams/protein a day every day and love every gram of it!! (and I've lost 120 lbs in 11 mo)

They are starting a vegetarian recipe section to incorporate high Protein on www.bariatriceating .com - they test all their recipes and you can get feedback from others and wonderfuls support there.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
