Tammy483 162 Posted July 30, 2013 Weird! My doctor mentioned that I couldn't take Bruges tabs but could consume it in powder form. Nothing else is a no no for me. I take Voltaren for pain whenever there is any without any issues. Sent from my iPhone using RNYTalk That should say brufen tabs.. DiminishingDawn 50 Posted July 30, 2013 I think you mean ibuprofen? No aspirin.or any NSAID. It is a huge ulcer risk.
DLCoggin 1,788 Posted July 30, 2013 And ibuprofen (Motrin, Advil, Motrin IB) is an NSAID as are Naproxen (Naprosyn and Aleve) and Nabumetone (Relafen). For folks who are pre-op and are currently taking NSAIDS for treatment of other conditions, it would likely be a good idea to discuss options with your bariatric surgeon. Some studies suggest that patients that have the vertical sleeve may have a lower risk of developing ulcers from the use of NSAIDS than gastric bypass patients. chrissy61483 3 Posted August 1, 2013 I have horrible knees, both have been operated on and both need it again. Last year I shattered my wrist and was taking Zipsor daily for anti inflammatory issues....it was the only thing that worked and Percocet for the constant pain. They flat out told me I had to stop forever that the risk of ulcers were to high so they put me on that gel that was mentioned....for me it didn't work but finding anything that does it almost impossible so I'm sure I'm the 1%. On the upside I can still take my Percocet it was either crush the pills and mix it, which made me gag every time or switch to liquid which works just as we'll if not better. They don't like to prescribe it that way because it would be very easy to abuse but after surgery your family doctor shouldn't have any issues since you now have a valid reason for the pills not being a fun/comfortable option. I wish you the best.
