Help with chewable vitamins

Recommended Posts

I can't stand the chewable vitamins, I've tried many kinds and its the texture that gets me. Can I crush them and mix them with something and still get the same benefits? Everyday I dread taking them, leading to me skipping them sometimes which is not good at all! Any suggestions are appreciated.

I don't see why not. I'm sure you could crush it and mix it into a little applesauce. Maybe check with the surgeons office first, just in case.

I suck on mine instead of chewing them. I'm still pre op, but I have some samples of Baratric fusion the Dr's office game me. I ran out of my regular Multi Vitamins and instead of buying a new bottle, they said I could start using them. The texture bothered me too. But I found if I suck on them for a while first, then I can chew it with no problem. the strawberry ones taste the best to me.

I've been swallowing pills since post-op day 2 with no problems. Currently I swallow 7 per day spaced out, one at a time from AM to PM.

Last week I switched to a pill multi- couldn't handle the chewable anymore. I have been breaking them in half and they go down ok. My Calcium is the Calcet Creamy Bites. They are a little pricey but I figure its worth it to find ones I like. My Iron is a small pill- the multi doesn't have any in it. I do B12 injections so don't have to worry about that pill.

Celebrate makes a chewable Iron. Also my nut gave me a sample of a chewable multi that's more like a starburst. I think it's celebrate too.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
