Food scale help?

Recommended Posts

I'm a month away from surgery and trying to get prepared for this new way of life. Do people use a food scale post-op? Is it just for weight of food and you figure out calories/protein seperately?

Any help is greatly appreciated

This is not like the diets you've done in the past--you won't be worrying about calories anytime soon. The focus is on your Protein intake to reach your goal of 60g per day (a part time job for the next few months), drinking 64 oz. of fluids per day, and keeping your carbs in check by not eating simple carbs.

The primary kitchen tools you need are good sets of measuring cups and spoons. Your earliest portions will be about 1/4 cup, graduating to 1/2 c. servings and eventually 1 cup of food per meal. It's easier for me to check whether I'm sticking to plan by checking the volume with a measuring cup than to deal with 2 oz. of this or that. A simple kitchen scale with clearly marked ounces is sufficient.

In addition to plastic measuring cups and spoons, I've found it helpful to have 1 and 2 cup Pyrex glass measuring cups. I use them to heat things in the microwave and often eat from them because I hate washing dishes for a few little plates.

Good luck on your journey!

I use a food scale daily. I started using it pre-op, so I'd be able to judge serving sizes along with measuring cups and spoons.

I like the food scale. You just put your plate on and zero the scale and then put your food on. It's simple.

You will also want to use some type of food logging app or website...my fitness pal, lose it, spark people etc...much easier to keep track of your Protein and Water intake

I use a food scale. I find it easier than measuring cups. Check to see if your nutritionist lists required foods in ounces versus cups. I got my food scale at Walmart for $5.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
