2 months post-op and suffering from exhaustion and body aches... Help!

Recommended Posts

I don't know what to do. I'm doing (almost) everything I think I'm supposed to do since my surgery. I eat a healthy diet getting my 50-70 grams of Protein daily. I drink close to 64 oz of Water as well. I take my Vitamins as directed. I exercise 3-4 times a week but I am still pooped. I'm more tired than I can ever recall... mentally, emotionally and physically. At the suggestion of my doctor I've tried increasing my B12 and b-complex vitamins but I'm still tired. The nurse said that they don't typically do blood work at the 2 month mark but the want to know what the cause may be. Also, I recently began experiencing an all over body ache. Some might describe it as flu-like. I have no other symptoms. The combination of chronic fatigue and body aches brought me to tears today. I had a melt down. I'm usually a tough cookie but for some reason today I was rather emotional. I think that I can handle the aches and pains far easier than the exhaustion. I'm curious to know if what I am experiencing is "normal"? If not normal, has anyone else experienced fatigue/exhaustion and body aches at this stage (2 months post-op)? If so please share your story. How do/did you handle it and does it get better with time?

Well I have a couple questions for you.

Do you joints ache?

Do you have a sore throat?

Does you family have a history of arthritis?

Do you have really good days of no pain or fatigue followed by a sore throat and the pain?

Are you have trouble concentrating on things?

Have you become forgetful?

Answer those question and I will give you my opinion.

My joints do ache.

My throat is not sore.

My mom has arthrits in her knees and some of her fingers.

My body aches and fatigue have been pretty consistant/constant but no sore throat.

I do have trouble concentrating.

I have noticed that I am more forgetful.

I would guess that your body is adjusting to the low calories, I know even when I diet, I get achy...If not that then can you possibly be depressed, there is a post surgical depression that some get, including myself, but you can also be mourning your previous life that used food as a coping mechanism...your not able to do that anymore...Im sorry your going thru this, I probably will too, cuz I did with the sleeve and now GB...so im kind of expecting it...good luck, I hope you feel better soon!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
