jennyk 0 Posted July 26, 2013 Hello my doc wants me to consider gastric bypass. I'm terrified to have surgery... and I don't want to have xtra skin hanging. Any advice?
Jeepchick42 193 Posted July 27, 2013 Besides quitting smoking it was the best decision I've ever made. And I'd do it again in a heartbeat. Don't worry about the surgery. It's usually super quick and the recovery really wasn't bad at all. Just felt like a did a bunch of sit ups.
terry1118 1,274 Posted July 27, 2013 I agree it's the best thing I ever did for myself. Surgery was not as bad as I feared and recovery was faster than expected. As for the skin, I'd rather have hanging skin than hanging fat. A little hanging skin won't hurt me but the fat definitely was. I'm already feeling so much better! It's a personal choice... :-) 1 Band Mom 3 reacted to this
jennyk 0 Posted July 27, 2013 Thanks.. yea alittle won't bother me but I've seen some people who have a lot and I think I would feel more bad about myself then I do now being fat if I have a lot.
PiRatFamily 5 Posted July 27, 2013 Research as much as possible (including complications your surgeon may not share with you) and hopefully that will help.
shershrinking 53 Posted July 28, 2013 Hello my doc wants me to consider gastric bypass. I'm terrified to have surgery... and I don't want to have xtra skin hanging. Any advice? If you decide to do it you need to find a bariatric "center of excellence" - research well. Get references from people you know. Go to a local support group and ask around When you feel comfortable sharing more we are here to listen and support you. I am 54, havent been below 230 since i was 26, and HWt 290... I have bad insulin resistance. I am down to 246 pounds now, and i can walk longer with less pain, but i cant run, and my diabetes is still bad. I am hoping the RouxEnY will reset my hormones and help ease my diabetes. My surgery is Sept 3. I am most anxious about Fluid intake - i love my cold liquids.
