Banded last night

Recommended Posts

I just got my band last night and out of the hospital today. I am sore from head to toe and can't imagine why! It hurts to lift my arms, my calves and thighs hurt to move them. My neck, arms and legs hurt more than my stomach. Is this normal?:)

Shireen

Yep! It's a combo of anethetic and gas! I could barely roll over in bed w/out help! But the good news is that in a few days you won't believe the difference! Hang in there and keep posting, let us know how you are doing. Are you using a heating pad? Helps a lot!

Hi Shireen,

Congratulations on your banding!! I'm sure your soreness will pass quickly. As you may have heard, walking is a good thing to do as it will help dissipate the gas and keep your muscles limber as well. Good luck, and take care!

Welcome Shireen!

It will get better with each day that goes by. It's amazing how fast the body can heal and recoup. Just take it easy. I bet by tomorrow you'll notice a big difference in the way you feel.

Please keep us posted!

BTW: We go to Clearwater for vacation every year. What a beautiful place! It's a dream of mine to live on Clearwater beach some day :)

Take Care!!

Thanks everyone for the warm welcome. I used the heating pad last night as Debra suggested and I do feel better today. I think sleeping helped too, I didn't sleep at all in the hospital.

I had my surgery done by Dr Grossbard (Florida obesity surgical associates) in Zephyrhills Fl at Pasco Medical Center. I would highly recommend them.

Tricia, it's a dream of mine to live on Clearwater Beach too. I live 8 miles from the beach, where the middle class people live. I doubt I'll ever get there (unless I win the lottery!)

Last thing. I'M HUNGRY!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sounds like you must be getting better if you're hungry.:D How long are you supposed to stay on liquids? Warm drinks are soothing and seemed more filling to me -- teas, broth. Jello makes you feel like you've actually eaten something. Popsicles are good. This time will pass. Please get plenty of rest and don't overdo.:)

I was hungry the minute I woke up from surgery. I stay on Clear Liquids for 2 weeks and then full liquids for 3 weeks. I've gained 3 lbs since I went in the hospital. I'm guessing thats fluids from the IV.

Right now, you need to just concentrate on healing and not doing anything (physically or eating) that can dislodge your band. You may gain weight. But you will turn around once you're past this liquid stage. Just try to take it "one day at a time". This time is probably the hardest part and it will pass. :)

Shireen, I was hungry when I woke up too. It is normal... The first couple of weeks are the toughest. I found V8 worked well because it was a little thicker. When I was in the hospital they gave us hand pressed applejuice (kind of thick) and Jello. Jello worked well. Time will pass quickly. Teresa

well you have picked the right place to be. These wonderful people have put my mind to rest many days. Heal and follow instructions. A mistake now could ruin all your efforts. Follow the diet to the letter. Its hard and you'll be hungry very hungry. Its important for the band to seat as I call it.

I would do it again in a minute congrats...

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
