You just want to continue to prepare yourself mentally for this. I just had my surgery on 7/16/13. I had been psyched about having the surgery since my first consult back in Feb 2013 and took all the necessary steps to ensure that it happened but when it finally happened it wasn't like I had imagined. Don't get me wrong I don't regret my surgery at all but as far as the people I thought were going to be supportive, they really weren't. I wasn't really ready mentally as far as food goes. The couple of days I spent in the hospital were fine. It was when I went home that reality set in. My life revolves around food. I found that I can't enjoy television like I used to. I don't want to go to family outings because they are based around food. It is really sad when I really thought about it all. I'm starving mentally but I know that this is the fight thing to do and I can't ignore the ton of weight that I have lost already. So all I'm saying is just be sure you prepare yourself thoroughly. You might be spending some time home to recover and if you are used to eating out of boredom this was tough for me. As the days progress and I continue to get closer and closer to my Fluid and Protein goals it's getting better.

Thank you!!! This all helps a lot. At this point I don't know what to expect so I'm trying not to have any expectations....I hear so many stories on here that vary so much!! It's just nice to hear from people going through this too, I feel like I'm not alone.

Hang in there things do get better. You will be able to enjoy tv again and those family outings. It just takes time! This is the hard time of this journey, but in several months you will realize you had more strength in you than you thought you did. You will look back and say wow I made it through all that and look at me now!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
