There are a lot of folks who have/had sleep apnea and have been approved for bypass surgery. I would be quite surprised if it was a problem.

It took a little time for me to get used to the CPAP mask. I'd suggest that you make a commitment to use it for two weeks, every night, no matter what. Do that and you'll never hesitate to use it again. You'll be amazed at the difference it makes!

As others have said, the CPAP was a huge improvement for me in my ability to get a good nights sleep. But RNY eliminated the sleep apnea entirely. Now that's huge!

so true, the same for me, GONE thank God!

I'm pre-op. Sounds like this a very common condition. I honestly don't know how I'll feel about sleeping with a mask on....that kinda freaks me out....

The nasal pillow is what I use now and honestly not that bad. Started out with the full face mask and it was hurting my neck but I had to learn to breathe with the nasal pillows as I'm a mouth breather. They can try different masks to see what works best for your comfort. Once you get into a good pattern of using it u can't believe how amazing u feel

I couldn't stand the nasal pillow!!! I tired that, the full face mask and ended up with the nose mask. It makes me close my mouth. The nurse said she was glad I didn't like the nasal pillow because my pressure gets pretty high at night. I didn't have any problems with getting used to it. I think the first tine I used it for 6 hours. I really hope this surgery eliminates my apnea, but I don't know as my throat is really small.

Yeah I was told mine was pretty narrow and the weight loss alone might not 100% cure it but I'm hoping and praying with all my heart it does! It's tremendously better I believe..my cpap has started waking me up more and more..pressure has to be way to high. Mine is at 15. I would love to pack away the mask for good

I too used the nasal pillows. Worked great for me. My apnea was very very minor. My pressure was only 8. After losing almost 40# I sleep thru the night without my cpap.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
