6 years post-op....still down over 100 pounds!

Recommended Posts

6 years ago this month I had my life; as I knew it, change for the best! Dr. Wade Barker in Dallas, Texas helped send me on this journey when he performed my gastric bypass surgery! I am soon to be 57 years old....I feel great, have never never had any problems and have become that normal person that was lurking inside; but, couldn't get out until Dr. Barker opened that door! (Can you tell that I sing his praises? Ha!) As an anniversary present, my daughter just had her GBP surgery yesterday! Now I can watch her get healthy, too! I have kept off over 100 pcs, and I certainly do Not feel deprived in my food choices. There is almost nothing that I have found that I can not eat....only now I eat to nourish myself, with an occasional treat! I wish all the very best on your journey!

thank you for this inspiring story! I have heard so many negatives about the long term ability to maintain the weight loss... its fantastic to hear a good story!

It is all about learning from the mistakes I made that got me to 370+ and learning that I am worth the effort!

Thanks again, and I am happy to hear your daughter is also on her way to being healthy! I wish her much success too!!

Thanks...and congratulations to all of you! I would do it again tomorrow! If it weren't for the GBP eIther had, I don't know what would have become of my life....I was to the point of not being able to get thru a shift at work without being ready for tears due to the pain in my knee. While my knee still bugs me at times...I am very active now and can manage the discomfort with Tylenol. I have 10 horses that I have to care for and am able to do the hard work related to them. I believe that I did so well because I followed the rules after surgery to a tee. No cheating or pushing the limits. I wish everyone who has chosen this route the best of luck.

Sincerely,

Cheryl

I am 13 months post op and a Barker patient. I feel so great full that i choose him to do my surgery. Dr Thompson is amazing and the guys at max muscle have been so helpful. Glad to hear that he has the long term success rate.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
