I finally got my approval. It was supposed to have been submitted to my insurance on the 10th but she didn't submit it till the 17th and I called today and was told it was approved. Now all I have to do is wait for Jennifer the surgery scheduler to set the surgery. Finally I feel I can breath now!!

Jetson,

Until I got the approval I kept thinking it wasn't going to happen. Something was gonna go wrong. And insurance would say no. My insurance approved the surgery the same day it was submitted. I went yesterday and did my pre admission tests and filled out the forms. My surgeon wasn't there so I have to go back Thursday afternoon for that visit and get final instructions on diet and so what for final days bfor surgery. And Monday is surgery date!! So excited. And a week from tomorrow u will be going for yours, so excited for you. I totally know how you feel. :}

Naynay you are so right. I have been so preoccupied with worries that the surgery wouldn't happen that I trully didn't expect it to go through. Actually last week something potentially catastrophic did happen. I called my family Physician to check that he had submitted the Letter of medical necessity and I was told he wouldn't do it unless I had a physical. Of course I have seen him 8 times in the last 12 months and he never mentioned the physical. They set the date of the physical for August 5th! I was freaking out until I called the surgeon and they said that they would submit the paperwork without the letter and that they didn't expect it to matter. In the end it didn't and I got the insurance approval. Huh... my story! Anyway...Good luck with your surgery. I will be thinking about you on Monday!

Oh my goodness. That would be nerve racking. I kinda felt the same way. I had started looking into wls back in 2008. And went to the primary care doctor I was seeing back then and asked him about referring me, well he told me because I had no co-morbidities that it would not be approved and he did not see any reason to refer me to A surgeon. So I had basically given up on it till earlier this year my friend, who has the same insurance, went in for her surgery. I talked to her and she told me exactly what to do and who to talk to and, god bless her, she has lost over 100 lbs and just had her sleevectomy on feb. 14, I got everything started in May of this year. So when I went to my new primary care physician, I kept thinking she was gonna say no, but instead she told me she thinks I am making a great decision and that I am a perfect candidate for wls. And she gave the referral to the wls surgeon. That was a huge relief. But I can't say I actually thought it was really gonna happen till I got the insurance approval. Now I'm excited and getting a little nervous. Just a little. But I can't wait! Thank you for the well wishes and if I don't talk to you again, good luck to you on the 8th. It will b here before you know it.

Yes I also had dr Coates, great dr. So nice and will go out of his way to check on you. I was not able to keep anything down the day after surgery. And he said my stomach was probably irritated and swollen. Then the next day I was fine and had no problems. I'm 11lbs down since surgery date and doing great. Good luck to you. I am in Stockton. Off of bianchi and march lane. If you want to text me u can. My number is 209 9815784. Call or text if you want to talk. My name is Renee.

      Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
      What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

      Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
      1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

        All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
