How Long Before You Returned to Work?

Recommended Posts

I work at a desk in an office. I am planning on returning to work a week after surgery. My boss is skeptical. Am I being realistic? Did anyone else go back to work that soon?

I was off 7 days then worked 1/2 days for three days. Returned full force at 2 weeks. I'm a family practice PA so stand and walk and talk a set a little...not strenuous but not exactly sedentary. The first 3 days were tough but in the end I think my recovery was so smooth because I was up and around and doing so much :). If your doc says you can do it, then you can do it!!!!!

Did you have any lifting restrictions? I have s desk job but occasionally I have to move around and lift things. I'm hoping to only take 2 weeks off.

I had a 10 pound restriction for 6 weeks.

I was off work 6 weeks, I think I needed 8. Lol

I was unlucky and had lots of pain after so I was in the hospital a week and in the bed the next 5 weeks. I went to the doc and tried to get up and walk as much as possible but it was rough for me.

I was out 2 1/2 weeks but could have gone back after 1 1/2. The only thing that I had trouble with was I developed a troublesome rash that made it very uncomfortable to wear anything but a loose dress.

When I did go back I had no problems at all. I work in a bank and was cleared to work with no restrictions. When you go back is very dependent upon you and your situation. Your general health, recovery, complications, how you feel, what your work duties are, etc - all these things vary from person to person and affect when you can return to work. Allow for the maximum amount of time - you can always go back sooner if you're up to it.

I also plan on going back in a week. I work for a law firm and I'm the only secretary for two attorneys. Nobody else to do my job while I'm gone.

I had my surgery July 10, 2013 and returned to work the 16th. I have a desk job and had no issues at all. I could've gone back sooner if needed to be honest. After first days the air in my shoulders settled and only issue was being a bit tired. I'm sill doing great, haven't thrown up even once, no dumping, no issues (knock on wood). Good luck to you!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
