Maybe the surgeon cut a few extra nerves while inside.

Or maybe because you're so gassy its putting pressure on your nerves that run in those areas. It could be just one nerve thats doing all this damage.

I'm not MD but... I'm a darn good Guess-e-ologist in my area ;-)

I talked to my surgeon he said there are no nerves in the are he did the stabs, but maybe you are right about the gas. The surgeon really had no idea why I had the numbess he thinks its because my surgery took 5 hours and I might of been positioned funny. Either way it's a terrible feeling it makes walking almost impossible I hope it passes soon.

Five hours is long! Maybe that's it. If he's not concerned maybe give it a little time, as long as it doesn't worsen or you develop new symptoms. If that happens I would go to the ER.

My right thigh was tingly and numb after surgery... I asked my surgeon about this and he said that they have to ground the cautery (the instrument that cuts thru the skin etc.) and some people get numb. It went away in about 3 weeks. When I had hernia surgery a few years back I had the same thing happen but my right side groin area is still numb which was due to nerve damage. I signed a consent form saying that the type of hernia surgery I had there would be a chance of nerve damage. What helped me with the gas was walking and the more I walked the better I felt. I hope you feel better soon !!!

Wow 5 hours is a long time, did you have any complications during surgery? If the numbness continues, you need to demand answers, I hope you feel better soon.

Nope no complications he said it went great I'm not really sure why it took so long I was the last surgery of the day didn't go on the table until 330 and woke up in recovery at 830ish. I finally passed a little gas which was great still have more to pass. My biggest fear now is the numbess my hand has started to get a little better but my leg is still terrible.

When I had my son, I had a c-section. And during the operation my arms fell towards my head and no one fixed them, so the medicine gathered a good amount in my arms and they were numb for about two days. Also, It could be the way you are sleeping. I had to ask for a chair and it was heavenly.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
