Nervous Nellie! Surgery on july 23

Recommended Posts

I couldn't wait for my surgery date to get here and now that it is right around the corner I am kind of freaking out! I'm not so worried about the pain but am worried about the anesthesia. They say most people worry about waking up during or not waking up after. I'm worrying about both. Could you please share your experiences? I think it would help me calm down. This is not my first surgery and I didn't have problems before so I'm not sure why I am focused on this. Thanks!

You will do fine... I was giving a relax pill during my prep which help a lot with my nerves. Then they wrapped me up on this hot air blanket that was comfy.

When I got outside of the surgery room I was greeted by my surgery nurse, anesthesia Dr and Surgeon. After a meet and greet some of my anesthetics was injected into my IV which knocked me the heck out. My Surgeon doesn't like for his patients to see the surgery room.. and I was cool with that. I tend to panic from medical stuff.

After surgery I woke up groagy but I appreciated that cause of the pain. It wasn't too bad but it wasn't too good. The nurses will wake you up and walk you the same day as your surgery. If you are a little or a lotta sleepy after... Take advantage of it. Trust me after little that moriphine button ever 15 to 30 minutes... You'll be back off to sleepy la la land anyways. You'll do fine!

You will be just fine.... I have had many surgeries in my life time and lived to tell about each one. Its totally normal to be nervous, when they are preping your for surgery ask them for Demarol or something to calm you down.

I am a very nervous person and I decided to do meditation exercises for successful surgery. I just went online and downloaded two meditations for successful surgery and listened to them every night before bed. I was freakishly CALM before surgery, it was a little spooky! I highly recommend it, surgery was a breeze!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
