Seriously freaking out!

Recommended Posts

I am three weeks post-op & I am freaking out a little bit. I went to my surgeon's office a week ago & had lost a total of 30lbs, but I weighed myself today (a week later) AND I HAVEN'T LOST ANY WEIGHT! OMG!? What is going on? Is this normal!? I guess 30lbs in 3 weeks is good, but I just wasn't expecting to not lose weight this early on! PLEASE someone else tell me this happened to them & I am normal. I am seriously so down on myself right now. Am I doing something wrong????????? Am I going to be able to succeed...or is this just ANOTHER failure. AH!

Normal. I had my first stall 2 weeks post op, and it lasted over 2 weeks. Just keep working the rules.

Agreed...this is a major shock to the system, do what you're supposed to and you WILL lose weight.

Your scale is broken! Do your self a favor and get rid of the scale or hide it. Let it be a big surprize each moth you go for the official weigh in. Just a thought. Good luck in your in your weight loss adventure.

Totally normal, Remember your body just went through a major surgery so your body is in shock. Trust me, give it time and keep following your eating plan and start walking!! This happened to me too and I actually got depressed right after my surgery, almost regretting it because I wasn't losing fast enough and now 9 months post op I'm down -124lbs! It will be melting off of you dear in a matter of time!

Welcome to the stall!! It sucks but it'll move. Best suggestion is to up your Protein and your exercise. I usually have a three day cycle of not losing anything and the I'll lose for 2-3 days. It's strange but as long as it keeps coming off I'm fine with it.

I have good news and bad news!

Good news - you are 100% normal, and this will pass. Your body is just throwing a temper tantrum to what you just did to it.

Good news - you drop more inches when you go through a stall - so smaller sizes here you come!

Bad news - this will happen many many times during this journey.

My advise - don't get caught up in numbers - they are just that numbers. Do you feel better? Look better? Could you have done this well without surgery? Find another way to measure you success. i measured it by being able to see my toes in the shower. before surgery they had disappeared. Now i can see half of my foot!

Finally in about two or three months someone will post on here about a stall just like you did. Smile and reflect that it will all work out! ????

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
