Doubting decision in final hour

Your story is inspiring! And what a ride you have been on! Congrats to u for being so close to your goal weight! I appreciate everyone's response to my concerns. It is reassuring to know that I just might be able to get rid of diabetes if I have the surgery. I would be highly upset, if j lost the weight and still have my same health concerns! How would that even be fair!!![/quote']

My doctor actually suggested the surgery for diabetes. I am so thankful that I took her advice. I came home the second day after surgery with only a half of blood pressure pill. No more diabetes meds or cholesterol meds!

Totally agree with you regarding the diabetes. My surgeon recommended the RNY because of my diabetes and I just went on the Omnipod. Of course I have other health problems' date=' which it will help also. In the seminar I attended, the medical field is looking into doing RNY for those people who have type II diabetes but not that much overweight, or morbidly obese. So, think this is a lot better decision compared to the lap band (I had, it failed) and the sleeve. Good luck.[/quote']

My surgeon told me the same thing; other countries are not even considering BMI. Instead, Type II Diabetes is the determining factor. They are calling it metabolic surgery vs. bariatric surgery. He seems to think it will take years for our insurance companies to catch on-that they will be stuck on the whole height/weight formula forever...

That is interesting that your class said the medical field is heading g in the direction to recommend the surgery for diabetics. That would put a whole new perception on wls!

The RNY surgeons in my hospital are actively working with endocrinologists -they are just about integrated now. It's exciting to think that diabetes could be eliminated for good.

I am not too worried about loose skin. I am looking to be healthy, not gorgeous. I will wear spanks i guess. Figure i will be coldblooded and want to wear layers when i get thin- I might get a lifestyle lift tho- necklift.

Totally agree with you. Some insurances though will pay for a removal of the loose skin in the tummy area if you have problems with rash, actually it is usually yeast infection that develops. But I would think as you do, it shouldn't be about how you look but the road to a healthy you. Looks don't kill, but being overweight will.

Sometimes ppl think oh you were only 211 pounds you had major surgery not needing to lose over 100 pounds. Check it out. I had WLS to save my knee. I was carrying too much weight for a 5 feet woman. My knee was being affected to the point knee replacement or WLS and save my knee. Also 2 special need kids it's not easy to deal with when you can run after them. I'm healthy don't need a knee replacement. I did the diet stuff was causing me major headache. When your used to eating like pig 2 plates of rice & Beans & meat full to the top twice almost daily to say let me eat one plate or half of one plate. You feel sick & get headache so I needed my stomach reduce so I can feel full & that's what made me stop eating like pig. I feel normal now.

I thought I can live with loose skin but I can't. It's not only about looking great or being slim. It's feeling good about your self. I don't feel good about my body so I'm having plastic surgery next year for my self only. I rather be slim then fat but I rather feel great then become depress cuz wearing lingerie with extra loose skin will not make me feel sexy I matter what hubby says. He just want what's between the legs. No one knows how the other person feels inside till they are in my shoes & have over 20,000 to spend on plastic surgery.

Good for you! Get it done.

If i were to get a big cash windfall i probably would do it, but i cant see that happening.

I didnt mean to criticize anyone's decision. Its all good.

I'm hoping I don't need plastic surgery, but if I do need it I will go through with it. Even though, I'm having the surgery for my health issues, I feel I need to be happy in my own skin and if that is what it takes I will.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
