My BMI is right at 35 (I have diabetes among other things), anyone with a lower BMI wanna share your experience? I'm wondering with a lower BMI were you worried about losing to much weight? Or were there any other complications due to the BMI?

Thanks Ren

I had a BMI day of surg of 37. Smaller than alot here(sounds funny to call myself small) I'm down to 30bmi. I have done well I suppose. I think the lower the bmi u start with the slower it is to see a huge weight loss. I am nearly 3months and I am down 40lbs right now. I am happy. My sleep apnea was severe,PCOS, insulin resistant, high BP, high cholesterol, joint pain and on I can go. I honesty haven't been worried about losing too much weight cause I just can't imagine that seeing where I am now. If I hadn't lost slow like I have then maybe but I honestly still can't see myself that small.

My BMI was 35 right on the button at the first meeting with my surgeon. I decided quite some time before my surgery that I was not going to set a weight goal. Instead, I went into the experience believing that as long as I followed the protocol as closely to the letter as I possibly could, my body would tell me when it was at the weight it needed to be at. And that's exactly what happened. When my weight stabilized, that was the number. Thirteen months post-op and 130 lbs lighter, my weight stabilized at 155 lbs. Today I'm just over 21 months post-op and my weight this morning was 154. I'm loving the new me and you're gonna love the new you!!

We have Drs here that state a BMI of 30 is good to do the sleeve ( with previous genuine failed attempts etc) as it prevents the patient getting to the point where they are in a life threatening weight situation and they're healthier on the operating table to do the sleeve - prevents getting unhealthy to get healthy at an earlier and safer intervention point - I'm just saying basics as there would be other factors looked and psyc consult also involved - but makes sense -

Hello! I also had a low bmi of 36 and I was approved and having surgery on the 18th this month. I have acid reflux, an internal hernia of my stomach and horrible depression due to being overweight. I was approved easily. Just stuck to all my appointments and weigh ins and following directions. You'll do just fine :)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
