Today is my one-year bandiversary!

Recommended Posts

Hello All!

Today is my one year bandiversary! There's good news and bad news. I'll start with the bad news. I'm seeing my doctor today after an ER trip yesterday due to extreme pain in my port area. It's been growing increasingly worse since December and at times, I can't move or walk and just stand and sweat and shake with pain. I'm really hoping he will order a barium swallow, a CT scan, and an upper GI to start. I'll keep you posted on it.

The good news is I've lost 80 pounds! I am very happy about that, but I really wish this day would be a purely happy one and not marred by this pain I'm having.

Thanks for all of your support!

Congratulations on your bandiversary, Sunta! Definitely let us know what's up with your port pain. :) Here's hoping it's nothing serious. At least now there's 80 lbs less of you to get in the way of treatment!

Hi Sunta, and happy anniversary!

I'm not going to guess about what you're feeling, but a firned of mine who is banded experienced increasing pain around her port - if I remember correctly. From mild annoyance to take your breath away attacks. In her case, her tubing had herniated and the surgeon just poked it back in place, added some reinforcing, and called it good. :)

did you do anything special to loose all that weight - meaning watching what you ate all the time or did the band itself do most of the work?

I need all the HELP I can get!!! I'm suppose to have my band done on March the 23th. Problem is I'm sooooooo close to backing out.. I will be paying for it myself and I am soo scared. I don't know if I can do all that there is to do...and I don't know if I can live like that for the rest of my life. I know that my health is at risk and I have to do something but, I just don't know. I am so new to all of this. Please Help!!

I don't know if I can live like that for the rest of my life.
All in all life isn't that different. And IMO, whatever differences are in place, are sooo worth it.

Not to hijack Sunta's post, but being scared is normal. I know had I not taken this step and changed some things for the rest of my life - the rest of my life would not have lasted much longer due to health and obesity. Just food for thought, so to speak. Hang in there :)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
