Weight loss and excercise

Recommended Posts

So my surgery date was May 28, 2013. My pre surgery weight was 254, my current weight is 213! I'm excited about the 41 pound weight loss but I don't see a difference and I'm always hungry!!!! I'm still on a restricted diet and just literally got released to exercise but I have no energy to do it!!! Just looking for help and or advice!!!

I had my surgery on May 7th and I started working out a few weeks ago. I tried going back about 2 weeks after surgery because I was cleared and boy was that a mistake. I had to wait a while before I was able to do anything....even walking would take it out of me. I started taking my Vitamins regularly and increased my Protein (Premier Protein from costco has 30gms each which is a good amount). I would say just try a little at a time each day and soon you will be doing everything you ever wanted. I never thought that I would be using the elliptical but I have. I do that 3 days a week with weight training. I also do Water aerobics twice a week. On the weekends I usually hike somewhere on Saturdays and leave Sundays for rest is I choose. Your energy will come back soon but remember you had major surgery and it takes time for our bodies to heal. I hope this helps :)

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
