Are you not allowed to eat oatmeal? When was your surgery? I am 4 months out and I am allowed to eat it :)

5 months and yes, however baked oatmeal has a boatload of carbs and not a lot of Protein, just looking for something a little less carb-y and a little more protein-y. Actually think I've got it figured out, we'll see in the morning!

Quinoa has Protein and is delicious with berries as a Cereal

2 c. Skim milk + 3 T. added dry skim milk for Protein

1 c quinoa

3 t. Splenda

1/4 t. Cinnamon

1 c blueberries

Bring milk to a boil

Add quinoa, return to boil

Reduce heat to low and simmer, covered for about 20 minutes

Add berries, splenda, and cinnamon

Cook for a little longer...til berries are heated through, maybe 1 minute

Serve with a little milk and more berries

You can also do quinoa with dried fruits, dates or apricots which are high in sugar, but also high in Vitamins and minerals.

Nutritional info: Protein 6 grams , carbs 20 g. Folate( yay) 35 mcg. ....not bad for a hot Cereal. I sometimes do this for Breakfast before workouts.

Gonna make this today too! Have a box of quinoa in the cupboard. I tried it once just plain and hated it but it was too expensive to throw away. Thanks for the recipe!

Going to try it also, but changing the skim milk to either original coconut milk by Silk or their almond milk, both have less calories then skim and about half the carbs. Also, might add they both have more Calcium. I love my oatmeal also but gave it up because of no protein and felt the only advantage of it was the Fiber and of course it lowers your cholesterol (but that is eating it daily-not). Thanks for the recipe. Going to the store shortly and get some fruit.< /p>

My husband makes oatmeal with vanilla Protein powder and loves it! Just an idea.... And thanks for the quinoa recipe!!

I make this a lot now that it's cold. It warms my son up before he braves the cold , and it really fills me up...a little goes a long way:)

For those of you who think they don't like quinoa, it may be that you have bought the kind that hasn't been pre-rinsed. Freshly harvested seeds are covered with a bitter substance called saponin. In nature the saponins function as a pest repellant. This coating needs to be removed, both because it is somewhat toxic, and also it is very bitter. Even when I buy "pre-rinsed" quinoa, I give it a quick rinse in a strainer. It is worth the trouble, though, because this is the only high (ish) carb food that I eat- it is a great seed and it also has Protein. I use it anywhere I would use rice, oats, etc. You can also buy quinoa flour.

This morning I made a baked custard with quinoa, eggs, milk, pear puree, and vanilla Beans. So yummy, you wouldn't believe it. It will be my Breakfast for the next 5 days, or so...

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
