Aww. I'm sure your daughter is just trying to have the kids have some stability. And she knows you are that for them. My three younger kids have been staying with my mom since the day they got out of school for summer too. Grandma and grandpa don't want them to come home. When I try to pick them up my dad asks when "his" kids r coming home. I am hoping that I have surgery before school starts again.

Most of the time I hate to see them leave, mostly because I know things at home for them should be a lot better. My mom had a stroke and requires round the clock care and my dad is very frail and does dialysis 3 times a week. I moved them in with me about 6 months ago to take care of them. I also have a 33 you're old with cerebral Palsey and she has needs that must be met.

When the grandkids come now I can't give them all if my attention like I did before and kids nowadays feel the need to be entertained so when they get bored they pick at each other till there is a screaming match or one of them slugs the other one. I have days where everything seems to go wrong and there's not enough of me (even being this size) lol, to go around...

Both my parents and my daughter are all on different diets and the kids don't usually want what I fix for them and sometimes I can't blame them... Lol so with everyone in this house sometimes I fix 4 different meals to please everyone...One of the things I look forward to is the extra amount if energy and the lack of chronic pain after my surgery...I'm trying to fit me into the plan of getting healthy so I can be better at taking care of everyone else. My new BF of the last 5 months has been a God send and he will be the one to go through this surgery and be there for my aftercare. He has 3 weeks vacation to use if need be and about 25 days of comp time so I'll be in good hands. I just pray everyone else don't run him off... Lol

Lucky for me he really cares about my family and they love him. I've been truly blessed.

Tammy, it sounds like your grandchildren are old enough to learn to cook for themselves? They could peel potatoes, trim green Beans , learn to make pie crust, ( my 26 year old niece was delighted to see me make piecrust from scratch, and decorate the edges like Martha Stewart) (no sugar in my pies) even learn to make bread from scratch (get whole wheat recipes- much healthier) - i did all those things by freshman year. Then have them set table and serve.

You sound like a wonderful example for your grandchildren. Wishing you the best! Sher.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
