Dating: "I think you are perfect the way you are" guy

Recommended Posts

Have any of you run in to the rare "I think you are perfect the way you are physically" guy?

Did you feel a little suspicious of him?

Would he encourage you to gain weight?

Thoughts?

I dated that ellusive man for five years. I was a size 18 when we met and he LOVED my body - I mean LOVED my body. He never, ever once said one thing about my weight but he did not encourage me to gain weight either. If I complained he would tell me that I looked great and that all he was concerned about is that I was healthy.

There were a lot of other problems with this relationship though, and I ended up gaining over 60 lbs and was a size 24 by the time we broke up.

So yeah, the "perfect the way you are" guy didn't work out for me too well. lol

Seriously though it was wonderful to be with a guy like that, and I always considered myself lucky for that piece of the relationship if nothing else.

I had a boyfriend who loved fat girls. Weirdest obsession ever. Every girl he dated and still dates is overwieght. Funniest thing is he is a skinny little thing himself.

My husband is that guy. Met and married when I was thin. As I ballooned up he never said anything about it. With my 20/20 hindsight I wish he would have.

Suspicion wasn't an issue before we were married b/c I wasn't fat then.

If I were single & dating now, and met a guy who said that, I'd like to think I'd know whether or not he was sincere. If I detected insincerity, I would mosty definitely be suspicious. Lots of potential for cruel ulterior motives there.

I married the "I think you are perfect" guy. We met and I did gain a lot of weight(up to 350), but I was not a skinny minnie by any stretch of the immagination at first( around 240). He loves me for who I am. And yes, he did (very past tense) have some issues with me losing weight. But that had more to do with his own insecurities than with wanting me to be fat. His sister and his best friend's wife both lost a lot (100 lbs plus for each) and turned around and left their husbands. It took a lot for me to do some damage control with him and tell him, I love him. And to point out that both of them had some serious problems in their marriages that we just do not have. Their weight loss seemed to be the straw that broke the camel's back for some reason or another.

My husband WAS that guy. Up until the day he left he told me that I was the most beautiful woman in the world.

Then one day he left without explanation.

I, of course, blame the weight, but maybe im wrong.

I wont ever know the reason.

My hubby is one of those guys. Loves me even at 393 pounds. He's terrified I'll leave once I'm skinny. He's insecure. I think some women leave their husbands once they lose the weight because insecure men become jealous and hound the hell out of you because they think you're leaving when you're not. We're having some issues with that because at just 40 pounds lost he's already trying to make me account for every second he doesn't know where I am, who I'm with and what I'm doing.

I am married to one. When I first brought up wanting to lose a lot of weight he was a little nervous that I wanted to be skinny. He prefers women who have some curves in general. So I explained that no, I was not going for skinny, and I didn't even think that would be an option for me, that I just wanted to get down to a healthier weight and not be underweight or look like a model. He was perfectly pleased with that answer and has been supportive of me eversince no matter what phase I am in, whether its the "screw this stupid diet that doesn't work. I'm ordering pizza and don't count how many slices I eat phase" or "I really need you to help me keep track of what I'm eating" phase.

He's actually a little worried that after the band it will be too hard on me to have no junk food and thinks that maybe we should have a little bit of stuff I like in the house so he can ration it out to me for when I get bad cravings and ease away from it gently. He wants it all to be as easy on me as possible so I'm more likely not to binge, etc.

If you have a guy like him--appreciate his gesture and ignore him until the cows jump over the moon. I have been with a Woman like that. I was going through my weight loss without banding--each time my wife got a chance to see me naked--she said I looked sick or something close to it. Avoid these people--trust me--My divorce was well worth it....I am getting banded within 20 days

I've just met Mr. 'Like You The Way You Are' and he seems genuine - in the limited face-to-face time, thus far. With 50lbs left to go, he said that he does not think that I am overweight and that everyone is built differently. Said he loves my curves and he thinks that I am perfect the way I am. Confuses me!! I guess I just think back to all of the other bad relationships or ones that were truncated because of my suspicion of the weight (though, no one ever admitted it). I'm just being extremely cautious. Would be WONDERFUL if he proves my suspicions wrong...guess we'll see what happens!

I am married to a man who loves me no matter what my weight is. He's worth his weight in gold. He always encourages me in whatever endeavors I undertake, including the band. He's a gem.

I think I've had a lot of luck in the men I've dated for any significant amount of time - there's not been a lot, but with all of them I've felt they're genuinely ok with me as I am. However, I'd get all weird and insecure and start asking what, exactly they liked about me. If you like me because I'm smart or funny or cynical or whatever, and I'm ok with it. But if you like me because I'm attractive, it clearly means you're either lying or have serious issues. It's hard to be OK with someone loving you when you hate yourself.

My boyfriend now is great and amazing and wonderful. I honestly believe he loves me exactly as I am (he's not so crazy about how I dress, but I dress as I do because of my weight). He's also very supportive about my getting banded, without crossing over into too pushy about it. HOWEVER, he does give me the "you're going to leave me when you're skinny" line a bit too often. He did get divorced from his (ex)wife immediately after she was banded, and likes to say I'll leave him like the last one. However, it was a long-time coming and she really didn't leave him because she got skinny. It was more something she did to jump-start a different life as she was getting divorced. I understand where she's coming from - I just have to remind him of it. I think he's joking usually, but I also that he has some genuine insecurities here.

Oh...yes I recall hearing that from a few of my Lady friends. I am not their boyfriend, but I hear--"You will not want me--cause I am a larger Woman. One lady who says this--size 16 at 5'10"--now I am just 5'9" at 270--I still think it's beneficial to my health as I am about 25 days away from being banded....Now that I say I am getting banded--she says--"maybe it's time I do the same"...mmmm--makes me wonder

I am one of the lucky ones who is married to this guy as well! My husband is so wonderful when it comes to things that I am sensitive about. I was heavy when we started dating and he has watched me grow over the years and has always treated me great! I can't say that he hasn't been concerned for my health because of my weight and family history but he has never belittled me because of it.

When I started exploring the band he wasn't certain of it because he was afraid that something would go wrong and he would lose me. After we discussed it a lot and researched it thoroughly, we decided to go ahead with it. He made it very clear that he loves me just the way I am but that if I needed to do this for me, that he would be right there for me.

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!
