Has any one had gout after surgery?

Recommended Posts

I'm 3 months out and just spent a week in bed since I can't put any weight on my foot. I have never had gout but I was told its from the sudden weight loss. Anyone know of foods that I should eat that will help limit this from happening again?

Ironically, I am pretty sure you would have to avoid high intakes of Protein. This topic has me curious- my great toe has been hurting terribly for about a month now. It hurts like an ingrown nail but I had my roots cut years ago due to excessive ingrowns- I can bear weight but the toe hurts plenty- maybe I have gout?

I wouldn't know for sure but when I read about it online it sounds like it. Ask your dr.

I had gout before surgery. My right big toe was constantly flared. Since surgery it is like I don't even have gout anymore! I eat a lot of greek yogurt and get my Protein from dairy and lowfat cheese and think that has helped. Try including more yogurt in your diet to offset other types of protein. Red meat is a gout inflamer.

Gout typically wakes you up in the middle of the night. The joint gets really red and is hot. A sheet touching it let alone a shoe could bring a grown man to tears. I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy. I hope you don't have it. Drink a lot if Water that helps.

Thank you, mine isn't like that and I have no redness or swelling.

It probably isn't gout if the joint isn't swollen or red. It could be tendinitis which is very painful too.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
