Lou:) 110 Posted July 7, 2013 Hi guys. I'm about three months post op and in the last two weeks I have had super bad heart burn three times. I had it real bad prior to the surgery but thought it was my lap band causing it. It is worse than when I've gone to the emergency room for it. It helps after taking tums but if I don't have any with me I am in tears and I feel it through my whole chest, back and shoulders. Is any one else having an issue. I though rny was supposed to stop this?

My husband had those symptoms &in hospital heart attack &no prior issue w/heart. Thought it was heartburn ,check w/physician.

Melbel 0 Posted July 7, 2013 Could also be gallbladder attack or your pancreas. Call your dr to get checked out.
DiminishingDawn 50 Posted July 7, 2013 Sometimes over stuffing the pouch can lead to reflux type symptoms. Talk to your team though. You might need an acid reducer.
Flmomof2 9 Posted July 7, 2013 I would definitely check with your MD. I had severe gastric reflux before surgery. The only thing that helped was Nexium. Now I'm off the med completely with no acid reflux. I was told that the surgery should eliminate the acid reflux so talk to your dr. I'm almost 3 months post op, too. Rem 87 Posted July 7, 2013 Omg.. I had GERD before surgery. I still take my gerd meds and Im 10 weeks post op. I think they are taking me off it in 2 weeks. I hope it doesn't come back. They say surgery fixes that. Hope you figure it out and get meds for whatever it is. Keep us posted! 1 Godzchild1982 reacted to this
Lou:) 110 Posted July 7, 2013 Thanks guys. It seems to be happening when I have lemonade or a margarita. Maybe the sour mix? I will call my doctor Monday.
SoccerMomma73 1,867 Posted July 7, 2013 Thanks guys. It seems to be happening when I have lemonade or a margarita. Maybe the sour mix? I will call my doctor Monday. Margaritas and lemonade are both very acidic, you may not handle citrus/acid well at this point....be careful and yes, call the big dude tomorrow!
macy1952 0 Posted July 9, 2013 Not suppose to have any alcohol for 1 year after surgery. Can cause ulcers.
Lou:) 110 Posted July 9, 2013 Not suppose to have any alcohol for 1 year after surgery. Can cause ulcers. Would an ulcer feel like heartburn.?
macy1952 0 Posted July 15, 2013 It could. I would check with my doctor. We've gone through too much to mess it up with alcohol. I'm afraid to even have a glass if wine.
ECUJenn 116 Posted July 29, 2013 My doctor says that your old stomach will continue to produce acid for some time after surgery. He puts everyone on Prilosec for a year after surgery to reduce the symptoms and reduce the risk of ulcers. I will say that the only time I consistently feel bad is if I forget to take that pill! zuzuspetals 78 Posted July 29, 2013 Alcohol and citrus are a bad combo for rny. I'm sure your NUT can clarify that for you.
