Stitchergirl88:

I have a terrible back pain going on for the second day as well. I can't figure it out. I took Tylenol and it helps' date=' but not sure why I have it. It is in my back on the left-side slightly higher than my kidneys. I have a had time believing it would be gas as well. I am 8-days post op. Surgery 09/16/13.[/quote']

That is exactly where I would describe my pain too. Does it hurt worse when you breath in?

well everyone it has been a long road to recovery. Sunday night I ended up going to the er because my side was still hurting even with the roxicet. I could barely move. They said it sounded like a pulled muscle and did a ct. Well, it was more like a very large blood clot above my drain incision. My regular stomach was infected and swelling, and said if I had waited it could of popped out of my skin. I had surgery to remove the clot on Monday, which left me with an open wound. I just got out of the hospital today. I now have to pack my wound twice a day, pretty gross thing, take a bunch of antibiotics, and see a blood specialist sometime soon.

(((Amanda))),

Brava to you for going to the ER! Blood clots are a very serious complication. I had ankle surgery about 18 months ago and a week later, I had pain that felt like a pulled muscle - but like you- it ended up being blood clots that had traveled to my lungs (bilateral Pulmonary Embolisms). Here's to your swift recovery!

I don't notice it with breathing. It feels like a back-ache. Did you read Amanda's post, she had a freaking blood clot. That is tripping me out.

Ya, very scary but she had a bulging hard spot above her drain. Back pain alone shouldn't signify a clot. If you have shortness of breath, cough, or any skin changes like swelling, redness, or stiffness.

They said it is pretty rare for a bariatric patient to get blood clots that size. And apparently mine wasn't just something that started up one day, it got progressively worse as time went on. I did have back pain eventually, it was my side that hurt the most. If you have pain that is not controlled by medicine and it is persistent pain, then go to the er or call your surgeon. It could be something as simply as being dehydrated. You couldn't tell by looking at me, that there was anything wrong with me, heck the er doctor thought I pulled a muscle. I got a CT scan.

Ya the stupid and rude PA thinks its gas pain from the CO2. She was like "theres nothing I can do but tell you what it is."

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
