Oh dear Lord.. I thought I was going to faint when I ate regular chocolate ice cream and a chocolate chip cookie.. I've been slowly experimenting with sugar .. Why I don't know. I try to stay sugar free, but ice cream is my weakness!! Anyone recommended a easier way to enjoy some yummy ice cream.. Minus the dumping.

I too am an ice cream fanatic, frozen yogurt is pretty good, but I found Sunkist fruit bars are GREAT especially the coconut. It's absolutely delish! It only has 16 grms of sugar, so no dumping. I try to keep the grams of sugar under 20 &it seems to keep the nasty symptoms away. Hope this helps.

Peace,

Mary

I saw something awesome on Rachel Ray yesterday. She froze bananas then puréed it with milk and it looked just like ice cream, and she claims it tastes like it too especially when you put toppings on it. I'm going to try it when I can have fruit.< /p>

It does!! I made this all the time before surgery. An it doesn't have a strong banana flavor. If you put a little vanilla extract in it, it actually tastes like vanilla. I'm just concerned because bananas have a TON of sugar in them. I know it's a different kind of sugar but it still makes me nervous.

I know the feeling. Pregnancy cravings convinced me that I would just love to have some Choc chip cookie dough ice cream w/Choc Syrup. I will never ever do that again. My heart started racing, shortness of breath, chest pains, sweating. I thought I was going to die. I'm now afraid of ice cream lol

I have a banana in my Protein smoothie and have had no dumping. I use it for the added potassium because I never want the iv potassium ever again.

I have been very lucky and haven't dumped on sugar yet. I don't avoid sugar but I limit it. I'll either have 'no sugar added' ice cream or just a very small amount of regular. Skinny Cow makes good ice cream too. I can't stand the taste of fake sugars like Splenda. So I stay away from diet drinks. I use regular sugar in my coffee.< /p>

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
