eating out portions

Recommended Posts

Hey all you longer term bandsters (I am 3 weeks out)

After your fills started, I know that the pouch is supposed to only hold 4 ounces. When you first ate out, did you just estimate based on what you ate at home or did you weigh the food? Is there a website or someplace that has after-cooking portion sizes? OR did you go by the precooked sizes on websites? :help:

Thanks for all the help you guys who have more experience give. It's already been great!

CLB:clap2: :clap2:

I let my stomach be my guide. I order what I want and eat it till I"m not hungry anymore - I dont really care how much that is. That tends to be half a meal but we dont have those supersonic sizes in Australia that you tend to have over there.

Your stomach doesnt really have a *limit* in terms of you can eat THIS amount and must not vary, it depend what you're eating, how tight you are at that time of day etc. If you listen to your body, you'll eat the right amount. Four ounces might be an average that people can eat, but you're not suddenly going to explode your innards if you eat five comfortably, nor should you eat four if you're full at 3.

I just estimate. When I have the right fill level, I can tell when I've had enough. I don't worry that much about exact amounts, as long as I feel good and am losing.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
