When did you go from shakes to protein bars?

Recommended Posts

I am only asking for the reason of being out for the day. I go out shopping for the whole day, on like a day off or something.SHOP A HOLIC!!!! Lol

Go out on the town and shop til I drop.

Its so hard to have shakes while being out all day.

When did you transition into taking a Protein bar instead?

Im on soft food til next month.. See my nutritionist next month too..

Just wondering.. Thanks for any tips!

Well, I think I was at about 1/2 or two months out. I had to travel for work and needed something portable. And for shopping as well. :-) I still do shakes and I am at 7 months.

The first bar I used was Pure Portein chocolate. Low in sugar and carbs. It is also very soft so I let it melt in my mouth. I think I ate 1/4. Waited. Then tried the other 1/4. Only could do a 1/2 bar at a time.

I carry a Protein Bar in my pocket book all the time, just in case. But if I know I am going to be out and about all day I always pack my "care package" which is in a thermal lunch tote. I keep a couple cheese sticks, pack of tuna (premixed) a shake and Water in it with an ice pack. Never hurts to be over prepared! I find that if i dont plan to keep this with me (at least in the car) I tend to pop in to a fast food place and it always ends up being something I shouldnt have.

Failing to plan is planning to fail! (what my granny use to tell me anyway!)

Im on the go alot and worrying about the milk spoiling gets annoying. :)

I go out a lot, I always take a few bottles of Water with me and I have a container that u hold powder baby formula in. It has 6 slots for servings of powder baby formula and I just fill it with my powder Protein. Then if I need my protein I just pour the protein in the water and shake it up !

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
