Hello everyone,

I'm so glad I found this support site! I was banded on 2/15 and was wondering if anyone had problems during the liquid diet stage with diarrhea (sp?) Kind of a personal thing I know but I'm starting to get a little worried.

I go back to work tomorrow and I'm thinking - hhhmmm....this is gonna be fun! Anyway - any advice is appreciated. :help:

Other than that post-op is going well. Does anyone have any yummy ideas for liquids other than Protein shakes and sf popsicles?

Thanks - Kim

Hi Kim---what you are experiencing is VERY normal. It is commonly said around here....Liquid in, liquid out. I got to where I did not go far from home towards the end of my clear liquid stage!! I also think the Protein Drinks I used made it bad...maybe it was the broth...maybe everyone had it as bad as I did---but I was convinced I had it worse!!!

Welcome to both Bandland and LBT by the way!

Let's see....are you able to have full liquids, by that I mean anything besides clear yet? I was on clear for almost 2 weeks.....

Once you can have heavier liquids, I blended all kinds of Soups, and that really helped with the liquid issues! I would take a can of whatever kind of Soup and blend it to smithereens, then pour it through a little strainer, and it was so much better than broth!! There are full threads devoted to food stages...try to read only the liquid ones at this point so you feel less deprived!

Keep us posted to how you are doing.

Glad to have you here!

Kat

Thanks Kat,

I agree with you that the Protein shakes are the culprit. My stomache is calm until I drink my meal then the rumbling begins!!

I'll check out those threads.

Keep up the great work - I can't wait till my bmi is 30 or less

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
