One step forward, two steps back

Recommended Posts

So I'm just venting today. I've been trying really hard and working on getting my Protein in with food since I got to graduate to soft foods after only a week of puree. Yesterday I took the boys swimming and I was starving when we were done, as per the usual. Aha but now I can get a small cup of Wendy's chili and make it last for two meals. So what I burned off I didn't eat all of it back and then some.

The problem came today when I got up and realized that I felt like there was a rock just happily sitting in my pouch. I took my morning meds and went about my day. When it came time to eat I just couldn't force it. Then I realized I was out of my Protein shakes and milk so no supplementing with liquids. So I thought I would push through and eat. I had tuna salad at lunch, an all natural ff hot dog for dinner and I may have managed to sip down about 30 oz of liquid today. It's so frustrating to me because I thought I was doing so well with it and progressing and then I get a day like this where I know that I haven't met quota at all. I cannot expect good results if I don't get adequate nutrition. Plus I just didn't feel super duper today so I think I may have over did with the swimming and all. All I know is today that pouch hates cold food or drinks and I felt a little stuck at one time. Not horrible but very uncomfortable.

Yes I know, I have no patience, this is a process, and I just had surgery. But I'm ready to get this weight loss show on the friggin road already!

Sometimes it just feels good to vent. I know that I will have my moments too soon.

My Dr. said no ice or anything with extreme temps for 2 months because it makes the pouch contract and he doesn't want that happening.

It's funny how different all doctors are. Mine has no restriction as far as temp is concerned. In the beginning I cold only tolerate cold liquids and then I could only tolerate room temp and now they have to be warm but I'm sure I'll end up with cool at some point. Everyday its a new pouch!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
