So sad and frustrated and filled with regret

Recommended Posts

I found this book "The success habits of weight loss surgery patients" by Colleen Cook to be very helpful. Are there any live support groups in your area? I also found those very helpful. You will see that, the range of people and their weight loss and struggles. You are not alone. Try to stay positive.

You are doing awesome!! 70 lbs is great within that time frame. You're on the right track and don't let anyone tell you differently. It doesn't sound like you have much of a support system at home. A support group for WLS patients sounds like a good idea to me. Keep your head up and keep going, you will get to where you want to be.

You didn't specify who told you that all of the weight loss occurs in the first six months but I'm telling you that is absolute nonsense. As others have said, you're doing absolutely great! Congratulations - you've earned it!

Your decision to have the surgery was a very personal one. Why give your spouse, friends, family or anyone the power to control your destiny? They can't take it, demand it, force it or order it. There is one and only one way anyone can have that power - if you give it to them. You cannot control the way others think. That's just fine because you have total, absolute control over your own thoughts. Embrace that. Reach for a better feeling thought. It is not possible to go from sad and regretful to joyous and thankful in one giant leap. It is possible to feel a little better, one step at a time - and that is enough. That is all it takes. Change your thoughts, and you'll change your world.

There are more than 31,000 members on this forum alone and hundreds of thousands of others all over the world. You're not alone and we're all here to help. Keep posting, keep asking questions, stay focused on following the protocol as closely as you possibly can, log your food, stay active, and stay away from the scales for at least a week and two or even three would be even better. You're gonna love the new you!!

logically I know that it is better to lose at a slower pace' date=' but I still have so much to lose, 70 pounds, that I terrified that I will not get to my goal. I was told that the first 6 months are when all the weight loss occurs. After that you are on your own. I don't want to fail this procedure and have everything that I have sacrificed be for nothing.[/quote']

I was told your "window of opportunity" is 12-18 months. Hang in there.

You got this ! Don't let negative people impose their negativity on you. As far as loss goes, my surgeon was very clear on the fact that I will lose for up to two years, so never fear!

Do NOT let negative comments control your confidence. Your best bet is to NOT discuss it with your spouse any longer. Go find a support group in your area. Your surgeon should have a list. I'm just 2 weeks post op & I'm scared that I'm losing too slow, but we have no other option but to hang in there. Keep positive & find support.

Thank you all so much. I am just so scared. Trying to stay positive. I just want this so bad. I have 60 more pounds to lose to get to my surgeons goal weight for me but 80 to go until my personal goal for me. I love my husband but he has fought me tooth and nail every step of the way and that makes me unbelievably sad.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
