Do you ever feel normal?

Recommended Posts

I have been going back and forth with this surgery for almost a year. I have been reading alot on this site and it is very helpful. I was wondering if after a while if you always feel the band or if you ever just feel normal again? Can you tell you have a band at all times? Can you feel the port?

only 2 mos after surgery--i feel COMPLETELY NORMAL--like i never even HAD surgery--getting my first fill today!

and no, can't feel my port--will see if the dr. can feel it! i got a "low-profile" port--so i'm sure that is why i can't feel it.

anyway, very pleased that i feel so normal--but wanting to feel restriction again, as i was happily NOT HUNGRY, but filled up on very little. that is what i'm hoping for with fills!

so far, so good--like my band.

Interesting question. I guess my best answer is that I have a new "normal". By that I mean that I'm not feeling like I did before the band, and that's fine. I've gotten used to having my band, and it's become second nature most of the time. For example, when we go out, I find I look for menu options that are healthy, and that would make good leftovers as I can't eat a full restuarant meal.

I don't feel the band itself, just the effects if I don't chew well or make a bad choice. The port, I can feel from the outside, and a twinge now and then if I bend a certain way.

I felt a little strange after surgery for awhile - like, what have I done and what the heck is in me. That passed pretty quickly and I do feel normal. I can feel my port sometimes but it isn't noticeable and mostly i don't thinik about it. The other day it felt 'bigger' than normal and it felt hard when I touched it but that seems to be gone. Sometimes if I sleep on it 'wrong' I may feel it but it's never lasting or really painful.

Hmmmm, day to day do I feel normal? No, not really. My head hasnt caught up with the weight loss, but when I catch a glimpse of myself or see a photo I think HOLY COW! I LOOK COMPLETELY NORMAL. That's the most awesome feeling in the world.

I cant feel my band and I can eat almost everything, but I always am aware when I'm eating. You get used to it though, its not horrible to live like that, it makes me feel in control and reminds me taht I've come from a place I am NEVER going back to. It makes me motivated and keeps me focussed.

The times when I've felt frustrated because I just want to stuff my face and not have to eat slowly and carefully are very very few and far between. I dont need that satisfaction any more and when I really feel I do, there are things I can eat around my band (like cookies). I didnt do it for months and months and months after I was banded, now occasionally I do eat five or six in a sitting, but these days more and more I think its just not worth it. I've lost the desire. So I feel more *normal* in that way.

It IS a different way of living but its a better way.

Lol considering that Just got banded yesterday I look and feel like just got into a knife fight. I expect to feel normal after a month at the latest, the port is the most annoying thing for me right now.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
