I just had versed (spelling might be wrong) and actually watched mine. Didn't have any discomfort. Even talked with the surgeon after he pulled the scope out. With this med you shouldn't remember anything, but in this case they didn't give me very much, just didn't have any pain as they numbed the throat. Of course this is the third one I have had so knew what to expect.

First one 20 years ago before versed, second was about five years ago, then the third was 5/23/13. I watched the procedure every time. Much better than the colonscopy which I get every three years and they do put you to sleep for that one.

Ok now I feel better. not that I had problems with the first one the versed sleep seems like i was out for a few seconds no bleeding or pain after dilation. Its just the events leading up to it that I don't like. one day i could swallow soft foods very slowly by day 3 couldn't swallow Water and was back on ice chips. my pouch opening had closed to about 3 mm after dilation it was about 10 mm. can swallow solids with adequate chewing now but then the food would stop in chest and I felt like I was having a heart attack with the foaming and regurgitation.

Thanks for explaining. I haven't had the bypass yet but now that you explained why you had to go through this, if I have some of your same symptoms I'll know not to wait but on the phone immediately to the surgeon's office. Being that sick is something I know I couldn't handle. Really hope for your sake the procedure has done the trick and you can get back on solid foods. Plus hope you don't have to go through this again. Good luck.

Thank you for this post! I go for mine on the 1rst and I'm REALLY nervous. I just had my upper gi series done and it was horrendous. I have a strong stomach and I gagged and almost threw up multiple times from the barium. So, I'm NOT looking forward to anything else going down my throat!

yes the barium to me taste like something that shouldn't be allowed in a person. but the endoscopy is nothing like it at all and the versed is your best friend during the procedure

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
