There is no normal per se. I had my surgery on March 5, 2013 and was 372 now at 329. I got scared because I went up to 340 a few weeks ago. I got to stick to my regimen plus go back to the gym. I'll admit I ate some bad things due to stress and boredom.

I had mine 4/21/13 and have lost 48 lbs since. I've lost a total of 83.5 lbs since the very beginning tho.

I think it depends the weight you started out at. Discharged from the hospital I was 221. For those that were 300+ they'll lose much faster. I may not go down in lbs fast but my size is decreasing quick. I'm wearing a size 10 and a medium shirt now.

My surgery was 19 days ago and I'm down 30 lbs. It's not hard if you just follow the plan. I see too many people who go right back to eating like the surgery never happened. It's a shame.

my surgery date was January 29 of this year, I was 386 the day of surgery. I'm now 285. I still can't believe it, I haven't been this weight in 15yrs. Just keep to your plan everyone looses differently & if you can exercise it will help it come off faster. Good luck & congratulations your weight loss. Peace Mary

Since I have had many complications and had to get cut open due to a bowel rupture and having wound vac I haven't been motivated to exercise. Whelp today no more wound vac!!! Though I still have a small hole I might can go walking today!!! Congrats on all you ladies weight loss.

Note to self exercise was the issue before surgery and losing the weight might motivate me more.

Slow weight loss doesn't mean someone isn't following the plan. I am 10 weeks today and have "only" lost 38 lbs. I have not cheated once. I get all my Protein, Water & Vitamins. I have not had a bite of bread, Pasta, rice or potato.

Being a slow loser is frustrating...especially when you KNOW you aren't "eating like the surgery never happened"

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
