Had some sips but it hurts. Made me so uncomfortable. Idk if I can say I will never have another drop but I can't drink more than a sip ever again. I've had possibly 2-3 sips in almost 2 months. I quit pre op and I was a coke zero addict

I drink a diet sprite occasionally. They don't bother me unless I take a big slurp! But, I tend to have a bottle or glass around and drink it for hours so its usually just slow sips. Never been a huge soda drinker anyway.

I have a diet soda once in awhile. Usually I try to best some of the fizz out of it first, and I've had no problems with it.

I would only take a sip if I had gas stuck to help burp but anymore it hurts. I too love Coke Zero

I was told no soda, no beer, no anything with gas!

I was told no carbonated beverages. I am very lucky to be a person who doesn't like soda at all. Even before surgery the only non- alcoholic beverages I drank were Water, unsweet tea and skim milk. That is a true blessing because those are all things I can still have. Even no alcohol for the first year will be fine. My vices are sweets so I plan to not try any refined sugar and am telling myself I will dump. Better to keep that sugar monster at bay!

I was told the same. I was never a soda drinker anyway. Pastry was my particular vice.

I basically have regular soda when I'm on my period. Other times I don't drink it at all.

The carbonation can stretch your pouch. Be very careful drinking soda.

I was a huge diet pepsi addict... I quit cold turkey after surgery, I am a year+ post op and I have a diet soda every once in a while but I don't miss it at all. Actually it tastes very chemically now.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
