Having to wait for a surgeon's office to send you materials sucks when you are willing to have surgery tomorrow, if necessary. I have only been working on getting approved since the beginning of November, but I am SO ready to begin the rest of my life. I just wish everyone else that is involved with the process (surgeon #2's office, insurance, etc.) felt the same urgency. The new surgeon's office holds nutrition classes the 2nd and 4th Wednesday/Thursday of every month, and they require all surgery candidates to attend two of them. The next one is this coming Wednesday/Thursday. If I don't hear from the surgeon's office before then, I won't be able to go to it, and I'll have to wait for the ones in March. It's all just very frustrating. My original goal was to have surgery before the end of the year. Obviously, that didn't happen. Now, I'll be lucky if I can have surgery before May. I'm also wondering if I should just schedule for May, anyway, if I get approved, since I'll be out of classes then. My only other break is in the middle of March, and there is no way I'll be approved before then.

easy, easy! they do feel your urgency--but they do also make you take all the steps. they don't want anyone coming back and saying "i never knew THIS or THAT" afterwards. i can relate to your frustration--i started my initial seminars in july 06--or tried to--business travel kept getting in the way...but by the time i got thru all the appt's (in dec), things really moved fast. you'll see--time is going to go by more quickly than you think!

good luck!

I know, I'm just getting anxious because I have already been through all this once. I got all of my required seminars and support groups done, got all the clearances, got my stuff submitted to insurance, and then found out I had to switch surgeons. Now I get to go through it all again.

I went through HOOPS to get this done. I go to school 3 hours from my doctor and theyd call and be like you remember your appt in 2 weeks, well we have an opening tomorrow, can you be there?..always was. Once they approved me I decided to get it done ASAP. Im in school to, and am actually a senior in college. I decided, that me being happy with myself and thinner and first in line with myself was more important than my grades. I did this for myself, and had a rough week post surgery.

HOWEVER.. I did get alot of sympathy from people, although I didnt tell them what I had done exactly...still even though my test scores suffered, I am feeling much better, and thats what is important

Keep on Hangin!! even though you want to SCREAM!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
