I have my preop class tomorrow. I have to be there at 830am and they said to expect to be there until 430p Wow...8 hours?? Im a little intimidated by the length of this class. Hopefully it's up beat and encouraging. I really don't need anymore to think about or second guess. But I am looking forward to getting this going and I feel like things are going very fast now. ;-) So anyway...just what's on my mind tonight!

peace

Do you think they'd be amused if you brought a Big Gulp and bag of frito's to snack on during the 8 hours????? Maybe order in pizza? (I know this is serious stuff but I'd LOVE to see their faces!!!)

But seriously, 8 hours is LONG!!!! Good luck sitting through it! I read another post with someone saying they'd been scheduled for their pre-op boot camp...wow!

My last class before surgery was like an hour it wasn't intense they wanted my husband with me and its important info like what do expect and when doc clears for sex etc.

I can't imagine a class that long. Don't second guess your day will be here before you know it:)

Surgery date 7/25/12

Oh yeah the nurse who runs the program made an announcement about bringing healthy Snacks to share...people do bring in other stufff....we'll see if she brings chips again this month....I thinks she's trying to be nice and maybe she doesn't know any better. You guessed it...she often complains about not losing fast enougheveryone all then talked about different food choices so maybe she would get the hint. She's nice enough, but pretty clueless.

Hey guys! Well I enjoyed reading your posts :-). So I was in class from 830 til 3 pm. We did get an hours lunch break (thank god) but it was still an incredibly long day. I received an encyclopedia of info that I'm sure will come in handy.

You laugh about the pizza and chips but there was about 40 ppl in the class and 75% of them was drinking regular coke, the lady in front of me ate a bag of M&Ms and the lady next to me kept asking when she would be able to resume eating bacon, coke and beer! They made her stay after for a one on one consult with the head nurse. I I about spewed my propel Water on multiple occasions! It's going to be a long trip for some of these ppl!

All in all it was a great class. The morning was dietitians talking about eating the day before surgery, during the hospital and the diets for the next 4 weeks. Then we had lunch and the nurses came in to go over all The medical stuff. The Chaplin came in and prayed with us which I though was very nice. Then they gave us a sharps container and an insulated lunch bag and a laundry list of vitamin/mineral supplements to buy before surgery :-).

Sounds great! And I experienced the same with people in my pre op options class. They would bring soda to class and take smoke breaks. It was a frustrating experience, but we can wish them all well.

Yay for you.... One step closer

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
