I'm 11 days post op and have always had pain in my right side, near the largest incision. The last few days I have been more active and the last few days I have been getting a sharp pain kinda in the middle of my abdomen prob about 4-5in above belly button. Is this normal? It's very sharp if I stand up too long or move certain ways. Lortab is the only thing that helps and that's only a little. I'm prob gonna call my surgeon in the morning but he's 2 hours away so I was Wondering If anyone had any insight?!

It's normal because I had the same pain in my left abdominal area. I'm 4 weeks post op today, and the pain just stopped 2 days ago. I believe it's your stomach pouch healing.

I never got the side pain but I was a band to bypass revision so I got the center of the belly pain really bad because they had to pry the port out. I took the lortab faithfully every four hours to keep the pain under control. When I tried to go without it to early on I paid for it.

That explains what is going on with me. My pain is in the middle, not on the side. I was a band to rny conversion too and that was where my port was. I tried cutting back on pain meds today and paid the penalty...

I had to have my band taken out then the RNY 6 months later.....that stupid port site bothered me for months!!!! Doc said he literally has to scrape the port out from the scar tissue that forms around it. Ouch?!?!?

I had my band for five years and it always hurt so it makes sense that now that it is gone it would hurt. I am so glad that band is gone!

Thanks for all your feedback ladies! I appreciate it. If I were a revision sounds like this pain would be par for the course. A nurse at my doc office said everything is still healing and I could have torn some flesh inside or something. Great. I'll be 2 weeks out tomorrow and still NEED pain meds :/

My fiancé wants me to ask for a refill as well cause I'm having HORRIBLE pain on my right side. I feel like an ass asking for more. It sounds so silly to just suffer over asking for something, but I don't want them thinking I'm hooked.

I'm sorry your having so much pain. I came home 3 days later & maybe once took 1 pain killer it was so nasty. Crush put in apple sauce was torture. Never took it again.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
