Hello to everyone, i am new. I have been researching lap band for quite awhile now but the only thing holding me back is lack of someone to go with me to Mexico. I am terrified!! I have read a lot today on here both good and bad. My question is, this past weekend, I came across a lap band center in Tijuana that offers group trips. Basically for people who dont have anyone to go with, have any of you ever heard of this before? The surgeon they are using is Huacuz, i've read a lot of good things about him, but like I said, I am scared to go alone. Any advice would be highly welcomed. Thanks

Welcome to LBT!!!

I fully believe I could have managed my trip to Mexico on my own--it would have been much more nerve wracking I am sure!!

I have not heard of the group trip offerings. I can see why they would offer it, and it would make for a fun reunion, or support group of people doing it all at the same time!

I hope you get some responses from his patients. Keep bumping it up to the top if you don't hear anything!

Good Luck!!

Kat

I had my surgery in TJ and I had a really good time. I went with my mom and aunt and the people there are very nice. There is alot of tourist so there isn't much to worry about....that's how I felt.

Have you found anyone to go with? I am planning on going to Mexico for the lap band surgery at the end of April/beginning of May and am just deciding which doctor to use. I'm reviewing these sites regularly and researching their reputations as much as I can and then I will make a decision.

I am actually going with Dr Huacuz with a group, i am so excited. I am going on their April trip. I have made my deposit and am ready to go, I am getting so nervous, but in a good way! I am so ready to get out of this body and feel healthy again. My mother is going to watch my son so she can't go and I am thankful I found this group. They are great!

I went to Monterrey with a girl who went by herself and had no problems whatsoever. I've also referred 7 people of which 4 of them went by themselves so if you have to go by yourself you will do great.

I just returned from Monterey last night - I was banded on Thursday. I had my sister with me, but there were 6 of us getting surgery by Dr. Rumbault on the same day. It was great support. A few of the group were there alone, but we all checked on them, and we did a lot of things together. It was really great- we even all went shopping together on Saturday. And the Dr.s and hotel were REALLY supportive and great - you will be very well taken care of.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
