Husband not on board with me having revision

Recommended Posts

So my husband is not on board with me revising to rny. I am frustrated and sad! He is willing to listen to me "plead my case" and willing to check out the support group with me to ask questions. I am self pay, but it is not so much about the money.....more about the fact that he thinks I should/can do it myself. I am sure he thinks that, since I gained back the 60 pounds I lost with the band, ( i did have two babies in the interim) I will not be successful in the long term with bypass. Does anyone have any info recommendations on what I can say to get him on board with this???

My husband was the same way initially. I just had my revision surgery on June 12th. I brought him to a preop appointment with me and hearing the doctor say they re finding out the failure rate on the band is much higher than initially thought helped. I had both surgeries at mayo Clinic and to have my doctor tell him he isnt even doing bands anymore (hasnt in 2 years) spoke volumes. When he would say to me "what if this doesnt work" or anything along those lines I would say, "what if it does"? I never give up and he knows that I will continue to try until Ive felt like I have succeeded. I eat really clean and follow a strict diet already it is y crappy metabolism and other issues that caused the weight regain. Time will tell if this "works" or not ut again I never give up and will give it my all. I count each pound as a success. Good luck with your decision!

My husband is the same way too. However, I'll continue to let him know that I'm the one who is living with diabetes and pain. The band never relieved my co morbidness, but did leave me with port pain along with them. I haven't given up yet but I need to really do this very soon. I must face the fact that diabetes waits for no one

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
