Can We Eat Popcorn?

Recommended Posts

No one is saying you should, vissmicki. Whatever's working for you, you just keep on rocking it!

Back to the popcorn, I loooooooove the stuff! I just make sure I limit myself to no more than a serving and try to pick the "lesser of evils" calorie wise when choosing a brand/type!

Proceed with new foods carefully. Try a few pieces of the popcorn...wait 2 minutes to see if it passes the stoma. If it does without discomfort, continue with small bites and slowly.

This is my advice for anything new and kinda bulky/dry (like popcorn or chips).

I began to eat popcorn very carefully at first bc of the "can't have" but it goes down easy. I just let it melt in my mouth then chew the crispy stuff til it's very minute. But I only have a small handful at the movies when we go. BTW that was with my 1st 3 cc fill. I've had another 3cc fill and haven't tried it yet so I hope it still goes down. Not having any other problems...actually less than with the first 3 cc. I thought for sure I wouldn't be able to get my pills down (about 25 a day) but with 6cc in me it's like a dream. The dr said now I should really start losing. YAAAAAA!!!!! Bout time. But I would suggest like everyone else is to take it slowly and make sure the one popcorn goes down w/o trouble.

I can't believe what I am reading????? I am not going to fool myself into believing that I can eat or drink anything that should be restricted after going through what it takes to get a lap- band. I will not undo the progress I have made because someone else says it's no problem. (Loss of 65lbs. Date of Surgery: 11/19/2013

I understand your concern. But, the band isn't supposed to keep you from eating, it's supposed to help you feel satisfied faster. There's nothing I can't eat, I just get full faster and don't want as much. I've changed my habits and still have some treats, I make sure I get my Protein first and usually I don't want anything after that. I've made exercise an important part of my routine and my metabolism has sped up.

Way too many people have the illusion that the band is supposed to stop you from eating when it's just a tool to help you control how much you need to eat to become satisfied, so you can stop yourself from overrating.

WLS is not about deprivation. Most if not all of us failed at diets because of deprivation. Moderation is the key. I can eat popcorn but I rarely do only because it is not something I favor. Once a while when the Wife and I go to a movie I may take a couple of handfuls of her popcorn.

For what it is worth, I had my normal every 6 week visit to my surgeon today. After seeing her, I saw the nutritionist. We talked about a few items I had questions about....and one was popcorn. I remembered from my earliest nutirionist meetings that popcorn was Verbotten.

It was, but now that I am 11 months after surgery she said that it is safe to try it again. She recommended that I try it at home the first time, not in the movies......this way, if there are problems, you don't miss a movie you paid for.

As with everything else here on the site....your mileage may vary and your doctor may feel differently.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
