Can We Eat Popcorn?

Recommended Posts

I am craving it, and am not sure if it's allowed. I was banded on 12/14.

All advice is welcome!

Thanks!

Nathalie

I have a mini bag several times a week. Maybe you can tolerate it, maybe you can't. There are no "absolutely can never have"s with the band. Try it for yourself.

I eat popcorn all the time. I get the 100 calorie bags (regular or kettle corn) and sometimes I can't quite finish the bag. It's a good treat!

I remember reading an article on about.com about lap-band surgery, and the author said that we could never have popcorn again or any beverages with caffeine. I don't think the author knew what she was talking about. Of course, I can't find that article now. Maybe they retracted it.

If you can eat it, here is a trick...

You can get bulk popcorn and put a small scoop in a paper bag, fold the end shut and stick it in the microwave. Every microwave is different but i usually set the timer on the microwace for about 2 minutes- I pull it out when the popping starts to get really fast. No butter, no oil, no artificial anythings. Just popcorn and a brown papaer bag. Then of course I spruce it up with my own stuff- but it really works.

I can't believe what I am reading????? I am not going to fool myself into believing that I can

eat or drink anything that should be restricted after going through what it takes to get a lap-

band. I will not undo the progress I have made because someone else says it's no problem. (Loss of 65lbs. Date of Surgery: 11/19/2013

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
