I see so many people on 7 day, 10 day, even 30 day liquid diets before surgery! Our dr only requires a 3 day liquid diet before surgery. mind boggling when I see these other post. wow more power to you all!

we are from upstate ny.. Anyone else from here? My wife and I are having the surgery together August 21 we have Medicare/Medicaid insurance and nothing was required.. I guess we're lucky because we're reading a lot where people have had to loose weight, have a 6 month diet/exercise program or some other insurance requirement.. maybe it's the surgeon we see, but all we had was the seminar, consultation, H. Pylori testing, psychiatrist, EKG, dietitian, and surgical clearance.. pretty simple I'd say! I'm feeling very blessed because we have an Autistic special needs daughter and we really need to be there for her, so bettering our lives is definitely a must.

we are so ready that we have already cut out soda, smoking, and normal everyday eating, and stocked our deep freezer with lean cuisine, and pantry with crystal light, Protein shakes, unsweetened apple sauce, broths, mashed potatoes, and whatever else is going to be needed! We have completely changed everything so that after surgery it's not going to be a shock to our mind, mental health, or our bodies!!! I still know that we're gonna struggle, have pain, and go through ups and down and were prepared for that.

I wish everyone luck and can not wait u till we have our surgery!

August 21!!

Good to start getting y'all prepped. Get ready to enjoy the wild and wonderful crazy ride. I though it was bs about tastes changing after surg cause its ur tummy not taste buds but omg it happened. samples of things for right after surg is nice and could have saved me alot of $

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
