Newbie: Had band today!

Recommended Posts

Hi to All!

My name is Megan, I am a nurse from NJ and I had my LapBand today at Saint Clare's Hospital in Dover NJ with Dr. Edward Pucci. So far, so good! The gas is pretty bad, but the painkillers are doing the trick. Would love to hear from other recent LapBand folks!

Not real recent here, just wanted to say welcome!!!! Both to Bandland, and to LBT---we are glad you are here, and that surgery went well.

Remember to walk a lot---and when you feel up to it, come back and tell us all about yourself---we look forward to supporting you along the way!!

Hi, Megan! Welcome to LBT! I was banded 2 weeks ago TODAY!!!

I didn't really have any gas pain until the 3rd day, and then it made me extremely nauseous. I had to take my anti-nausea meds that day. Yuck!

Glad to hear you're doing well! Come join us on the February 2007 Bandsters thread!

congrats on your band!! take it REALLY easy this week--and TAKE THOSE PAINKILLERS--stay comfortable! better living thru medicine!

you will be AMAZED at how quickly and easily (relatively speaking) you heal. of course, you might have a little pinch here and there--but before you know it--you'll feel absolutely fine--and your band will be reminding you what to eat--and what not to eat!

my first fill is tomorrow--i can't believe time has flown by so quickly!

Ok, I just said that to stand out!, being from Texas and all...hah

I am in week numba TWO on my band..Freaking awesome...ok, not all roses, so heres what ive had problems with, so youve had a heads up.

liquid diet..i was put on a liquid diet for a week..If I never see another can on chicken broth, itll be too soon!!

The Pain... I sleep on my stomache, so my incisions were always keeping me up, so be sure to stay on those pain meds for that..Also the worst part of the operation is the shoulder pains from anesthia (sp?)...goodness they were like a cramp pulled muscle and a burning sensation all at once..ugh!

food.. I really had no idea how often I opend the fridge until I duc taped it shut...also it made me face my emotions unstead of eating through them....weird

All in all however, this life after band is GGRRRREEEEEEEAAAAAAATT

Good luck and may there be less of you at each post :)

Hi Megan and welcome to LBT! Congratulations on being banded! I was banded 3 weeks ago and am doing well. I did have my share of gas pains though. The things that really helped were gasx, walking, and the heating pad. I am also a nurse. I work at Hasbro Children's Hospital in RI. Best of luck to you! Keep us posted on your recovery-Gigi

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
