Cocktail hour!

Recommended Posts

Hi ladies! I'm 22 and 2 months post op (down 40 pounds). I know avoiding alcohol is important, but I'm getting invites to go out for a drink after work with my friends and I was wondering what I should order at the bar. I only will get one drink and just have it to hold on to and not stick out like a sore thumb. My personal preferences are white wine and fruity cocktails but I know they are full of calories and sugar. Any suggestions on what to get?

Thanks y'all!

Do you have to have a cocktail? You can go out for a drink without it being alcoholic right? Just a thought.

Skinny margaritas don't have as much sugar. I usually have a whisky sour. I have had no issues with drinks that have natural fruit juices in them either. I'm two months out. I'm 25 and I like to go out once or twice a week and don't think it should be a problem.

That's what I do and have always done. Shirley Temple, virgin daiquiri, etc. I'll have to watch the calories, carbs from fruit and sugar, and carbonation now but I think it's doable. Good luck!

I'm not a drinker but I go out with the girls ,I order coke with ice, it's rum and coke without the rum and slurred speech, no one will know but you and the bartender. Sit back and watch the effect alcohol has on the body, it's magical lol.

I have no issues with alcohol. I was hoping I would have a problem with it, but alas...

I do find if I have a Protein meal 30 minutes before having a glass of wine, I don't hardly even get a buzz.

I had a "light" Midori sour last week, I didn't dump, or get super drunk off it. I asked the bar tender and he said it only had 5g of sugar in it.

look ahead a lot of bars (mostly those in restraunts) will have the nut facts on their drinks.

be careful and always designate a driver. lol

Oh and drink at home your first time, just so you know how the alcohol will hit you.

I seem to have less of a tolerance but not bad towards whisky. Sake on the other hand knocked me on my butt.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
